November 26th, 2010 by johnnyangel666Thanksgiving post: Cuneiform in my Cornucopia!

photo1

My parents opened this bottle of Chardonnay from Enkidu Winery in Sonoma, CA for our Thanksgiving feast today. Without really paying much attention to the design, which in the back of my mind found a little odd (I kept thinking “OK, there’s a chaise lounge and???), I set out to prove my mother wrong that there was no way in hell the name Enkidu had any German origins. I thought it sounded like Australian slang, but that wouldn’t make sense for a wine made in Sonoma. After a quick google search I learned that Enkidu is the central character in the Epic of Gilgamesh,  REaD more ☞

“As long as your starting point is letters, then you deal with typography. In a way the final result may be more than an image but as long as it comes out of a letter then I condsider it still typography.” -Oded Ezer From the interview Time of the Signs on Gestalten. I came across this random image searching for works by Ed Ruscha because Oded Ezer named him as an early influence on his work. This is not an Ed Ruscha illustration but I couldn’t help but connect the image with typography. image via howwedrive  REaD more ☞

‘Tybrid‘ consists of 4 squares (each 50×50 cm) combined together, forming the Hebrew word for ‘Typography’. “I dealt with formal intersections between traditional Hebrew letters and various object silhouettes, consciously ignoring ‘logical’ contexts. Using beautiful vector silhouettes from Stefan Gandl’s book and the popular Frankrühl Hebrew typeface, I freely and intuitively released myself from ergonomic and functional restrictions, using methods and materials developed in some of my former experimental works. This poster is also influenced by Dadaist works and contemporary virtual hybridizations of animals and human beings. I have treated this work as a suggestion for typographic, visual expression, something to look  REaD more ☞
